Is waxing your downstairs really worth it? What about the grow back process? Is it as uncomfortable as shaving? The hair takes longer to grow back so wouldn’t you get more ingrown hairs than you do with shaving?
These were the questions that I asked myself for the first year of my exposure to the beauty industry. I had never really thought about it
before I became a massage therapist and started working in a spa, but once I saw how many women came in for this particular form of what seemed like torture, I decided to try it.
Did it hurt?
To be honest I am amazed that these women don’t get kicked in the face.
These women are doing the lords work and risking physical injury so that we
can maintain our silky smooth downstairs. The esthetician I worked with has been
doing brazillians for years and told me that not once had she been kicked. I was sure that I was going to break that run of good luck but fortunately, for but of us, I did not.
Was it worth it?
While I couldn’t give it a solid test drive the first day, I was instantly happy. I may or may not have spent much more time than usual checking out my lady bits in the mirror every time I went to the bathroom. It has been just under a week now and I have had ABSOLUTELY NO ITCHY REGROWTH. I’m going to say it again, just in case you missed it. ABSOLUTELY NO ITCHY REGROWTH! This means no more awkward cross legged poses and “adjusting my posture” while sitting down. This means no morewalking funny down the hallway when you think no one is watching you. Ladies….I am a changed woman.
What about the ingrowns?
Okay, so I am a week out as of yesterday (surprise! I took a break while writing this :p ) and I still do not have any regrowth or ingrowns forming. I think this is because I followed the tips that my esthetician gave me. She told me there are
3 no’s and 3 yes’s. Let’s start with the No’s:
NO #1: No mixing your sweat with anyone else’s sweat just for “today” NO #2: No public swimming pools just for “today” NO #3: No hot tubs just for “today”And now for the Yes’s!
EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE!
Yep. The key to getting minimal, if any, ingrowns is to exfoliate. My Esthetician reccomendedthese cute little nylon shower gloves and told me to exfoliate every few days. Circular motions are important and the gloves work better than a loofa. Why? Because when you use a loofa you are only getting a little bit of direct contact where with the gloves you are able to apply direct even pressure and ensure that all of the dead skin cells are being sluffed away. So, now that I have popped my brazillian cereja, I can say that I am a changed woman.
I will definitely be going back to The Skin Bar for maintenance. If you have been thinking about trying it out, I definitely suggest it. Even if it turns out that it’s not for you, I can promise you lots of giggles in between the pain and you can say that you’ve done it. There is no better time than now to step out of your comfort zone.
Happy Waxing My Loveles.
